The journal is a latent yet perpetual desire of every member of the Bengal Society of Hematology (BSH). The first proposal was made in December 2020 during the annual meeting of BSH. The main goal is to establish a standard journal of hematology that not only publishes the articles of hematologists but also embraces the excellent research ideas and writings of researchers from other fields of science that are related to hematology that opens a new door and opportunity to the world of hematology research. It was an excellent proposal that easily got approved by our team and we decided to make quick plans to accomplish our mission. In a short time our strategic plans made it possible to make a dedicated editorial board in a rush but precise way. They all played an indispensable role and given up their leisure time to fulfil the dream. The publishing team members from ‘Scientific Scholar’ also took an important role to make everything possible. The title of the journal was finalized and declared officially in January 2021.

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic made it difficult for us to talk about this project in any kind of scientific gatherings and conferences. We were not able to connect with the researchers from other fields of science to explain our goals and collect their works. It was nearly impossible for us to execute the dream of publishing our very own journal. Our original plan was to publish the first issue (January - April) in time, but not able to do so due to so many difficulties and obstacles. The medical community being the front line COVID workers and so engaged with the current critical situation that our project got delayed. We were all so excited and exhilarated while planning the project but the delaying to execute made our hope unstable. “When there is a will, there is a way” - we believe in it and we decided to take a different strategy this time. We regularly organized virtual meetings to convey the message of our goal to the larger scientific community and to encourage them. And finally we are publishing the very first issue of our journal.

Besides the regular sections in a dedicated medical journal, Journal of Hematology and Allied Sciences (JHAS) includes a special section with the sub-heading of ‘What the expert says?’- that invites the writings on current topics and most up-to-date researches by experienced authors from hematology and allied sciences.

I would like to thank all the members from the editorial team and publishing house of ‘JHAS’ for their hard work. I am grateful to the authors who volunteered to submit their articles for the first issue of this journal; they would be a great inspiration to the future researchers. Lastly, I unreservedly appeal to the medical fraternity to come forward and submit more and more number of quality manuscripts in different sections which will enrich ‘JHAS’ and will help to upgrade Hematology.

Wish all good health and stay safe during this pandemic.
